More than 20 years recording sound on location, primarily for factual and documentary programmes, but also including commercials, films, and branded content.
I always try to use my own equipment, and have invested in kit that is renowned for its quality and reliability in the toughest of conditions.
I test and maintain my equipment before each shoot at my Dorset HQ, and also out in the field, where simply hiring in a replacement would be impossible.
My main mixer is Sound Devices 833, I use a range of mics including Schoeps boom mics, Audio Ltd A-10 wireless systems and lavalier mics by DPA and Countryman.
I have a range of stereo and surround recording techniques at my disposal including X-Y, Blumlein, and MS stereo and Double MS for surround. Each have their own advantages in certain situations. I also have a Telinga Parabolic Reflector setup for isolating specific sounds from a distance. This is especially useful in nature recording.
